Tuhin Dutta takes Bhubaneswar Open chess title

Tuhin Dutta of West Bengal emerged champion in the 4th Bhubaneswar All-India Open Fide Rating (1800 & Below) Chess Tournament, garnering eight points out of a possible nine here at Kalinga Stadium Hockey Complex on Monday. He won seven games and drew two to take home the top prize of Rs 60,000.

Odisha girl Sradhanjali Jena and Tripura`s Souradip Deb finished second and third respectively with 7.5 points apiece. Sradhanjali pocketed Rs 50,000, while Souradip became richer by Rs 40,000. Altogether 273 players drawn from 18 states participated in the four-day tournament, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 5 lakh.

Former Police DG Sarat Chandra Mishra handed over the prizes in the presence of host Khorda District Chess Association (KDCA) secretary Subhasis Patnaik and All Odisha Chess Association executive member G C Mohapatra.
